Philip IV cob 1/4 Real (ca. 1651), Nuevo Reino mint, KMA7, Restrepo M14.1 (1651, this coin). The cob 1/4 Reales issued in this period are traditionally attributed to a given year (when possible) by linking the punches of the lion and castle to a dated cob 8 Reales. Naturally, since one punch could have been used in several years, so the identified date of the 8 Reales piece gives in fact a fairly accurate estimate of the date of the 1/4 Real. anyhow, such is a tedious task, and the present coin is one of the very few successful cases. It is also among the finest seen of this elusive type, and should show strong interest with its fine pedigree.Ex: Lasser collection (Ponterio 1/2005, lot 797).
Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
