Charles II cob 8 Reales 1668 NR-PoRS, Nuevo Reino mint, KM12, Restrepo-M62.4, Good VF. full weight at 27.30 grams. A truly wonderful specimen of the rare type of Nuevo Reino cob 8 Reales issued under Charles II's name. Undoubtedly among the finest known in terms of wear, this coin is also well struck, and clearly shows all the important data: the 1668 date, the NoRo mintmark nad the PoRS initials (for assayer Pedro Ramos) flanking the pillars, and the king's name C(AR)OLVS to the right of the shield. Most of the HISPANIARVM ET INDIARVM REX legend on the pillar side can also be easily read. A very desirable type coin and an important opportunity for the collector of this elusive series. Ex UBS (Auction 45, 9/1998, lot 3154 for CHF14,500)
Estimate: 10000-15000 USD
