Cuba
Republic copper Pattern 10 Centavos 1870 P-CT, Potosi (?) mint, KM-X2a (previously KM-Pn2A), PR65 Red NGC. A gorgeous fully red Gem proof specimen of this rare pattern, with stunning reflective surfaces. Long thought to have been struck in New York, numismatists now tend to agree that the 1870 series of Cuban essais or patterns were in fact struck at the Potosi mint (hence the "P" letter on the date side) with dies engraved by Clemente Torretti (his initials being the "C. T." letters). This dispute has never hindered their popularity, and they remain much sought after. This gem example will undoubtedly attract competitive bidding. From The Collection of Dr. Roger R.
