German New Guinea
German Colony gold 20 Mark 1895-A, KM9, Fr-1, MS66 NGC. Mintage: 1,500. An extremely low-mintage single-year type and a popular design collected the world around for its beautiful rendering of the native Bird of Paradise. Seldom offered in any condition, the present piece certainly stands out against nearly all other survivors with gleaming, prooflike sheen in the fields and devices that rise boldly from the surfaces and hold impressive contrasting frost. Close inspection with a loupe confirms this example deserving of the lofty grade with a couple identifying lintmarks (as made) serving as pedigree markers. Currently the single finest example graded by NGC or PCGS and truly a collection centerpiece. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $5000 in VF, $10000 in EF, $16500 in UNC.

Estimate: 30000-40000 USD
