William II Rufus (1087-1100) Penny c.1089-92, Chichester mint, Edwine as moneyer, Cross in quatrefoil type, S-1259, North-852, AU50 PCGS. PILLELM RE, crowned bust facing with sword over right shoulder / + DP[INE O]N CICEST, cross pattée in quatrefoil with pellets at each apex. An issue from a scarce mint by a rare moneyer. The obverse has been struck with a rusted die and the is weakness to one quarter translating to the reverse obliterating much of the moneyer's name. The tone is an even grayish-gold and there is very little circulation wear apparent.
