Charles I Oxford Pound 1642, Plume mm, 7-pellets stop, Shrewsbury horseman, plume behind, trampling arms, no cannon, S-2939, North-2399 (R), XF Details (Graffiti, Repaired) NGC. A classic rarity from the Civil War, this massive silver issue immediately impresses. Typical planchet flaws along with some abrasions and doubling of the devices are noted. The graffiti partially responsible for the "Details" designation is light and illegible, although it is present on both the obverse and reverse fields. The tone, however, is lovely and the central details are quite appealing. A rare offering and an historically important piece.
