Great Britain
George II Proof Crown 1746, KM585.2, S-3690, ESC-126, PR65 NGC. Struck as part of the first collector-made proof set of Great Britain and as such, a true classic item in British numismatics. Generally thought to be from a production run of 100 sets, this piece can certainly be considered among the finest of the Crowns, as the strike shows needle-sharp execution and on the surfaces, only minute evidence of handling exists. Most impressive however is the overall eye appeal, with a mixture of antique-gold and greens on the obverse and similar peripheral reverse tone that culminates in vibrant blue-tinged centers. A wonderfully cared for Gem and currently tied for the finest certified by NGC and PCGS. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $5625 in UNC.
Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
