William IV "Brittania" Proof Fourpence (Groat) 1836, KM723, S-3837, ESC-1920 PR64 NGC. Plain edge variety. Clearly a proof striking and incredibly rare thus with full reflectivity in the fields and a stunning array of iridescent gold, green, blue and maroon color bands that circle the peripheries and shadow the central devices. A search of digital archives yields no examples that have sold in the last four years, and as such, the Spink catalog value of £850 should likely prove conservative.
