Victoria gold Half Sovereign 1849, KM735.1, S-3859, MS64+ PCGS. Another fine young head half sovereign, this one a near technical equal and obvious sister coin of the Gem 1846 and 1847 examples in this sale with sharply detailed, minimally blemished surfaces that hold alluring thick yellow patina at the edges. Several toning streaks that terminate at the left edge of the reverse shield are observed, and while they have limited effect on the eye appeal, might have been enough to preclude the full MS65 grade. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $160 in VF, $550 in EF, $750 in UNC.
