Victoria gold Sovereign 1845, KM736.1, S-3852, MS64+ PCGS. Clearly assembled alongside many of the other choice early Sovereigns in this sale, this example stands out among even that distinguished group and must be considered a condition census coin for this seldom-found-choice date. Delicate rose patina drifts about the obverse surfaces with a reddish freckle within Victoria's hair. Rich satin luster further envelopes the surfaces with little deviation. The reverse shield is a trifle soft in the lower quadrants, but the offense is nearly entirely forgivable given the charm contained elsewhere. Extraordinarily elusive in this fine a state and a wonderful candidate to join a cabinet of seldom-rivaled distinction. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $350 in VF, $375 in EF, $375 in UNC.
