Victoria gold Sovereign 1853, KM736.1, S-3852C, MS65 PCGS. "W.W." raised type. A wonderous specimen, struck from freshly polished obverse dies that impart a prooflike sheen to the fields with reverse surfaces that remain satiny and are accompanied by glimpses of thick yellow tone at the edges. The full strike is perhaps equally impressive with the reverse shield, often showing an incomplete harp in the lower left quadrant, displaying razor-sharp detail throughout. Truly nearly as-struck and while several other examples have equalled (and surpassed) the grade of the present coin, we find it hard to believe another exists with this much visual presence. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $400 in VF, $550 in EF, $650 in UNC.
Estimate: 5000-6000 USD
