Guatemala
Republic gold Pattern 5 Pesos 1894, Paris mint, KM-Pn23, Fr-47 (small head), PR64 PCGS. Only 10 pieces minted. This charming pattern was engraved in 1894 by Jean Lagrange, Chief engraver of the Paris Mint at the time. The tiny mintage figure of ten pieces is verifiable as the 1895 report by the Director of the Paris Mint accounts for it (and another ten pieces of the related 10 Pesos pattern, for a grand total of 750 Francs). Virtually free of handling marks, and close to the Gem category. Extremely rare with 4 specimens confirmed, this being the second nicest. We recently sold the Rudman specimen graded PR62 (Heritage 1/2014, lot 24472) for $9,987 including buyer's premium.From The Formosa Collection
