Milan. Philip III of Spain gold Quadrupla (2 Doppie) ND (1598-1621), Fr-720, MIR-338/1 (RRRR), Crippa-1/D (R4), XF45 NGC. Struck on a smallish flan with light circulation wear, this piece is nonetheless very rare. Although the dated issues are stamped beneath Philip's shoulder, which on this example is off-flan, the diagnostics for confirming this as the undated variety are the titles as PHILIPP in combination with the clamshell above the arms without pellets to either side of the shield. An uncommon offering for the specialist and worthy of a premium bid.
