Mexico
Republic gold 2 Escudos 1862 Mo-CH, Mexico City mint, KM380.7, Fr-87, AU55 NGC. A handsome specimen of this rare issue, sharply struck on the obverse and reverse and with very little actual wear. Listed as "Extremely rare" in Long's reference Gold Coins of the Early Mexican Republic 1823-1873. That work lists one AU coin, the ex Pablo Gerber collection specimen (Spink America 12/1995, lot 941, for $800, later resold in R. Long's auction of 7/1997 for $1,100) as the finest recorded, with the 2nd finest being VF. This coin is comparable to the Gerber example and should elicit strong interest. All three specimens seen of this date by the cataloger all show the date weakly struck in the lower part of the digits.

Estimate: 1000-1500 USD
