Republic copper Pattern 8 Reales 1829 Pi-JS, San Luis de Potosi mint (but struck in England), KMPn20, MS63 Brown NGC. Choice uncirculated with a very attractive chocolate toning. As Prof. Ted Buttrey noted when cataloguing the better of the two specimens from the Pablo Gerber collection (Spink America 6/1996, lot 416), the attribution to the Royal Mint seems solid: he wrote "This Pattern (was) presumably produced at the Royal mint, London, since dies are still to be found in the Mint Museum". A choice specimen of this classic and desirable pattern listed in Guttag as 3081A.
Estimate: 2000-2500 USD
