Republic gold Trial Strike Peso 18XX, MS65 PCGS. Gem Uncirculated. A later restrike using original dies of the Buenos aires mint, clearly struck over a Peru 1863 gold 20 Soles (KM194). The September 13, 1889 law, was essentially a contract between the Paraguayan Government and several private banks (namely the Banco Nacional, the Banco de Comercio and the Banco del Paraguay y Rio de la Plata) authorizing them to commission the mintage of up to 3,000,000 pesos in various silver denominations, including 2,250,500 in coins of 1 Peso. The mint chosen for this issue was the Buenos Aires mint and the master dies (albeit with incomplete dates) were finished for all denominations, including the minor 50, 20, 10 and 5 Centavos. These minor denominations were never issued but restrikes for collectors were struck later in limited quantities using the aforementioned master dies.
