Pater I (the Great) Poltina (1/2 Rouble) (1719), Red mint, Bitkin-1022 (R1), Diakov-10 (R2), Petrov 5 (8 Rub), variety with large cross on orb, AU55 NGC. Obv. Laureate portrait of Peter I right. Rev. Crowned Double-headed Imperial eagle with date in Cyrillic. A superior example of this rare Peter I type. The strike is bold, for the issue, and traces of original mint luster are visible around some of the devices. The surfaces show evidence of multiple strikes, both on the obverse and reverse, but there do not appear to be any significant imperfections. Only one piece has been certified in AU 55 by NGC, with one finer (AU58), and I cannot imagine that the example certified in AU58 could be a more pleasing piece than this coin.
