Barcelona. Joseph Napoleon 20 Pesetas 1812, Barcelona mint, KM76, MS62 NGC. A very attractive specimen of this 3-year type, well struck and with much mint bloom although the flan shows slight signs of incipient lamination. Barcelona was occupied by the French troops between February 12, 1808 and May 30, 1814, and a mint was established by decree of August 21, 1808. While certain copper and silver types (such as the 5 Pesetas crown) were struck continuously, the only gold coins issued were in this denomination of 20 Pesetas, and only struck between 1812-1814. While the 1812 is by far the more available date of the 20 Pesetas, Mint state examples remain rare, and offerings of such examples are few and far between. From The Formosa Collection
