Uruguay
Republic 1 Peso 1877-A, Paris mint, KM17, PR64 NGC. A Choice Proof of the Paris mint, with beautiful contrasting surfaces and amazing eye-appeal. The silver coins dated 1877 were the first such coins issued by Uruguay to the French decimal standard. Fittingly, these were commissioned by the privateers Paullier Bros. to the Paris mint. Documentation points to only one pair of dies being initially finished for the 1 Peso, which is consistent with the few known (less than 10) Proof coins of that denomination coming from a single pair of dies, including the recently sold ex Hungtington specimen (Morton and Eden 3/2013, lot 537 for GBP5,200).
Estimate: 4000-6000 USD
