Venezuela
Republic 2 Reales 1818 (1830), Caracas mint, KMC36, Stohr-15-(C6) var. a), XF45 NGC. Mintage of 268,000 pieces. Mint error with the reverse rotated. An unusually choice grade for this type, usually found in well worn condition. The round "Morillero" silver coinage issued by the Caracas provincial mint was of good quality when compared to the imitation cob type issued by both sides of the struggle and very much accepted. The present type, issued by the Republicans in 1830, is the clearest evidence of this, since it was designed to be as closest as possible to the "Morilleros" coins - including assayer Bartolome Salinas initials "B. S." - without insulting the new Republican pride: thus, only the royalist "F. 7" initials that flanked the potent cross on the reverse were removed from it, and replaced by neutral rosettes. This popularity enjoyed in the day has its numismatic downside since, as mentioned previously, worn coins are the rule for this type. In addition to its appealing grade, the present coin also presents a rare error with the reverse rotated ca. 45 degrees counter clockwise.

Estimate: 1000-1200 USD
