Venezuela
Ferdinand VII 2 Reales 1820-BS, Caracas mint. KMC-6.1, Stohr-11-C6 (var. a), MS65 NGC. 755,000 struck per Stohr. Gem Uncirculated and sharply struck with surfaces approaching perfection, and also beautiful toning, albeit perhaps a tad less attractive than that of the previous lot. The central dots appear free of rubbing evidence and the flan still shows its sharp edges and appears almost "as made"! A rather awe-inspiring coin, among the two finest known of this type (together with the previous lot) and undoubtedly the finest known of this much scarcer date: as Freeman Craig correctly indicated when cataloguing the Dana Roberts collection, this date is perhaps 20 times scarcer than the 1818-1819 ones.A superior specimen to the present coin is truly hard to imagine, since the cataloguer has seen a fair share of high grade coins, including mint state specimens of both the 1818 and 1819 dates, but nothing approaching this or the previous lot. Another treasure of Venezuelan series, and destined to become one of the central pieces in the holdings of its lucky next owner!

Estimate: 10000-15000 USD
