MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Do RL. Durango Mint. NGC EF Details--Cleaned.
HOH-D8/S4; KM-376.2; DP-Do01. Small Libertad-Even rays and Defiant Snake. Variety with superscript "s" of Granos struck over tip of secondary ray. Die defect at top of "D" of "Do". Secondary rays point to the "8" of "8R". Left curve of snake is even with "R" of "REPUBLICA" with upper joint of left wing below "C" of "REPUBLICA". This charming example displays attractive mottled gray patina with richer coloration and plenty of remaining luster amongst the boldly struck devices. The cap and rays are full with complete "Libertad" and well defined rays. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning, now slightly subdued by the attractive patination.

Hubbard and O'Harrow recorded only two Cap side dies with even rays below the cap, all others with small Libertad have staggard rays.
