MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Do RL. Durango Mint. NGC EF-40.
HOH-F1/L11 (late F1 die state); KM-376.6; DP-Do01. Large Libertad-Staggard rays and Folded Snake, small diameter planchet. Variety with dot between mintmark and date slightly offset towards date. Denomination and mintmark widely spaced, secondary ray overlaps with top primary ray. Large fold of snake curves slightly away from eagle. Rightmost berries of wreath are on stems that turn downward. This handsome and moderately worn example boasts a strong central strike exhibiting a fully detailed cap with complete Libertad and bold legends. The tops of some of the letters on the eagle side are somewhat softly struck. The fields and crevasses display rich mottled slate patina with a light gray coloration on the high points. Pleasing and wholesome with much originality.

The eagle side die exhibits evidence of die clashing, not mentioned by Hubbard and O'Harrow, and is one of only two recorded dies with Folded snake to exhibit this attribute.
