MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Do RL. Durango Mint. NGC EF-40.
HOH-N2/L7; KM-376.4; DP-Do01. Large Libertad-Staggered rays and Submissive Snake. Variety with superscript "s" of Granos above end stop of legend, secondary rays above "G" of Granos and "8R", head of snake pointed away from eagle and is above left most inner acorn. This highly attractive and nicely preserved example displays slate patina amongst the devices and fields with richer coloration in the crevasses and is complemented by a lovely iridescent blue sheen. While the tops of the devices offer a lighter gray patination adding a bit of contrast to the intricate bold and well-formed designs. The cap is full with complete Libertad, rays, legends and detailed eagle's breast. Pleasing to the eye and offering even wear with much originality.

Clyde Hubbard and David O'Harrow, place this snake under the submissive snake category, but make a distinction of calling it "upside down Defiant Snake".
