MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1825-Go JJ. Guanajuato Mint. NGC VF-20.
HOH-GO10/GR10; KM-A376.1; DP-Go02. Variety where superscript "s" of Granos overlaps ray. Snake's head aligns with center of "R". Diagnostic die chip under "I" of "MEXICANA". Wholesome and original, this well-worn example exhibits bold designs with even wear. The surfaces display a pleasing light gray tone with richer coloration amongst the devices and crevasses. Hints of iridescence pop out when tilted in the light coupled with minor earthen deposits adding to its originality and pleasing appearance. This date is encountered with far less frequency than other dates or mints and should be considered RARE and highly desirable. Last year of Hookneck production. The 1825 Hooknecks were minted only in Guanajuato and only in the first part of that year. To view all items from the Richard Elliot Collection click here.
