MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1823-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC EF-45.
HOH-MO1/MR1; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo01. Flat top "3", Republican edge.
Much scarcer than the 1824 issues. Variety with tip of ray pointing directly at star. Superscript "s" of Granos is located above "G". Head of snake points at front curved leg of "R" with evidence of die clashing below cactus. This nicely preserved example boasts a strong strike with bold design featuring a full cap with complete "Libertad", detailed eagle's breast and full legends. The surfaces display light mottled patina with plenty of remaining luster in the protected areas. An attractive and pleasing piece. Elliott considered this variety RARE citing no examples of sales when the Supplement was published in 2001. To view all items from the Richard Elliot Collection click
