MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1823-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC EF-45.
HOH-MO3/MR3; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo01. Flat top "3". Much scarcer than the 1824 issues. Variety with superscript "s" of Dineros is low between "D" and "2", ray point between "0" of "10" and "D" of Dineros. Snake's head aligns with the center of "R", top of eagle's tail feather aligns with last "A" of "MEXICANA". This handsome example displays attractive rich gray patina with areas of lighter coloration on the high points complemented with underlying luster in the protected areas. The strike is even with a full cap and complete legends, though the centers are a bit soft. Minor earthen deposits are noticed in the crevasses somewhat subduing the remaining satiny luster adding to its pleasing appearance and originality.
