MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1823-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU-55.
HOH-MO4/MR4; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo01. Flat top "3". Much scarcer than the 1824 issues. Variety where ray points to star and is close to "8". Superscript "s" of Granos is between "G" and end stop of legend. Head of snake aligns with vertical leg of "R". There is a diagnostic die chip in field between the left and right wing. This attractive example features a decent strike, although the centers are typically a bit soft. The cap is full with nearly complete "Libertad and" well detailed eagle's breast. The surfaces display light attractive gray tone with areas of richer coloration in the fields while brighter satiny luster pops out amongst the devices. This handsome example offers a pleasing appearance with much originality. To view all items from the Richard Elliot Collection click
