MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU-53.
HOH-MO11/MR11 (MO 11 late die state not imaged in "Hookneck"); KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. Variety with superscript "s" of Dineros set low between the "D" and "2". Superscripts "s" of Granos touches ray. The "2" of the date is high and tilted right, almost touching the "4". Head of snake aligns with center of the vertical leg of the "R" with a gap between the eagle's beak and snake above the snake's head. Top tip of eagle's tail aligns with the center of the second "A". This nicely preserved and attractive example exhibits boldly struck devices and plenty of remaining luster in the protected areas. A pleasing delicate pale golden tone is noticed amongst the devices adding a bit of contrast. The cap is full with complete "Libertad" and full legends on both sides, although the eagle's breast is a bit flat. Upon close inspection of the eagle side a thin well-hidden radial die crack is noticed from about 7 o'clock to about 12 o'clock adding a bit of character to the coin. This handsome piece is pleasing to the eye with many desirable features.
