MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU-55.
HOH-MO11/MR11A; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. Variety with superscript "s" of Dineros set high. Superscript "s" of Granos is set high over the "G". Denomination and mintmark are re-punched. Head of snake alights with center of the vertical leg of the "R". There is a gap between the eagle's beak and snake above the snake's head. Top tip of eagle's tail aligns with the center of the second "A". Beautifully preserved and very attractive, this lovely example displays a pleasing medium gray patina with attractive iridescent hues. The centers are a bit softly struck with most of the cap, but only a partial "Libertad". Clearly an example that sat for a prolonged period of time and given great care resulting in this eye-catching appearance. This coin is far superior to the plate coin in "Hookneck".
