MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU Details--Environmental Damage.
HOH-MO13/MR13; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. Variety with large "4" in date that is bracketed by rays. Superscript "s" is set and tilted left above "D". Head of snake points well below the "R" with tip of nose almost touching berry. Top of eagle's tail aligns with the last leg of the second "A" of "MEXICANA". This example exhibits a strong strike with bold design features. The cap is full with complete "Libertad" and full legends. The surfaces display a pleasing rich mottled gray patina with wear primarily confined to the high points. Close inspection reveals slightly granular surfaces accounting for the "Details" designation of "Environmental Damage". Despite its shortcomings a presentable example of this ever-popular type with a pleasant appearance. To view all items from the Richard Elliot Collection click here.
