MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC VF-35.
HOH-MO16/MR16A; KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. Variety with superscript "s" set high above stop between "D" and "2" while superscript "s" of Granos nearly touches ray. Head of snake points to front edge of the vertical leg of the "R", gaps between segments of snakes body above and below snake's head. Top tip of eagle's tail aligns with the center of second "A" of "MEXICANA". This original looking example displays lovely rich slate patina with areas of richer coloration and iridescence amongst the devices lending to its pleasing appearance. The cap is nearly full with a virtually complete "Libertad", bold complete legends, and plenty of remaining detail on the eagle. Moderately worn, this coin has good eye appeal. Considered SCARCE by Elliott with only three recorded appearances as of publication of "Supplement" in 2001. To view all items from the Richard Elliot Collection click here.
