MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC VF-35.
HOH-MO17/MR17 (late die state); KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. KM-A376.2; HO-MO17/MR17; DP-Mo02. Variety with small "o" of mintmark bracketed by rays. Superscript "s" of Granos touches ray. Head of snake points just below the "R" with gaps between segments of snakes body. Evidence of die clashing between 7 o'clock and 9 o'clock of wreath. This wholesome looking and moderately example exhibits attractive gray patina with richer coloration amongst the devices and crevasses with even wear. The cap is full with nearly complete "Libertad" and full legends on both sides. Wholly original looking this example offers a pleasing appearance.
When compared to the previous lot the present piece was clearly struck from the same dies, but in a later die state. Evidence of cracks and clashing indicates prolonged use and that this die pair was near the end of its useful life.
