MEXICO. "Hookneck" 8 Reales, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU-53.
HOH-MO22/MR22A (plate coin); KM-A376.2; DP-Mo02. Variety with superscript "s" of Dineros set high above "D" while superscript "s" of Granos nearly touches ray and is set between "G" and stop. Head of snake points to vertical leg of "R". Wing tip points to second leg of first "A" of "MEXICANA". Top tail feather is aligned with end stop. This attractive and nicely preserved example displays lovely old cabinet patina complemented by richer coloration in the protected areas of the legends with an iridescent sheen throughout. The cap is full with complete "Libertad", partial detail of the eagle's breast and bold full legends. Pleasing to the eye and wholly original looking, this is a handsome example of the type.
