LYDIA. Time of Alyattes to Kroisos. EL Trite (1/3 Stater) (4.73 gms), Sardes Mint, ca. 620/10-550/39 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 3/5. Scuffs.
SNG von Aulock-2868-9; SNG Kayhan-1013. Obverse: Head of roaring lion right; "sun" with multiple rays on forehead; Reverse: Two incuse squares. Well-struck and limitedly circulated. Some earthen deposits within the incuse punches. The noted scuffs are mostly on the reverse peripheries, leaving the obverse details intact. A nice example of this very early coinage struck in electrum.
