SASSANIAN EMPIRE. Shahpur I, A.D. 240-272. AR Drachm, Mint I ("Ctesiphon"), ca. A.D. 260-272. NGC Ch VF.
Sunrise-741; SNS I, Type IIC/1A. Obverse: Bust of Shahpur I right, wearing diadem and mural crown with korymbos; Reverse: Fire altar flanked by two attendants wearing mural crowns. Well-centered on a round flan, this Drachm delivers bold stylized details. The coin exhibits little of the typical strike weakness and is free from any damage or graffiti. Soft luster resides beneath the lovely cabinet tone, lending the piece an elegant and wholesome presence. A well-pedigreed and uncommonly attractive example of the type.
