PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, 323-283 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Arados Mint, ca. 320/19-315 B.C. NGC VF. Die Shift.
Pr-3426 (Byblos). In the name and types of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; monogram in left field. This early Ptolemaic type shows remnants of corrosion, though its surfaces have since been cleaned to argent brightness. Some dramatic die shift is seen on the reverse, though seated Zeus retains nice details and the monogram remains identifiable. An overall pleasing coin despite its drawbacks.
Estimate: $150 - $250
