PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy IX Soter II & Cleopatra III, 116-107 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Alexandreia Mint, Dated RY 9 (109/8 B.C.). ICG EF-45.
Svor-1670; SNG Cop-353-5. Obverse: Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck; Reverse: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt. Aside from some light marks, this is a rather well-preserved example of this later Ptolemaic type. The portrait of Ptolemy I Soter is quite pleasing, and the reverse is nicely centered and lustrous, showing a clear date. Vibrant iridescent hues gives the piece even more eye appeal.
