TIBERIUS, A.D. 14-37. AR Denarius (3.70 gms), Lugdunum Mint, ca. A.D. 36-37. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Edge Chip, Brushed.
RIC-30; RSC-16A. "Tribute Penny" type. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Livia (as Pax) seated right on chair with ornate legs, holding scepter and branch. This Denarius features bright surfaces and an excellent portrait of Tiberius. Only light evidence of circulation is evident, and plenty of brilliance remains in the fields. A very small edge chip is seen at about 3 o'clock, but is hardly a distraction from this overall stunning example of this ever-popular biblical type.
Estimate: $300 - $500
