HONORIUS, A.D. 393-423. AV Solidus (4.36 gms), Ravenna Mint, ca. A.D. 402-406. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Edge Filing, Scratches, Graffito.
RIC-1287. Obverse: Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Honorius right; Reverse: Emperor standing right holding labarum and globe surmounted by Victory, resting foot on seated bound captive to right, "R-V" at sides. Well-centered and displaying rich golden color that complements the details. While scratches on the obverse field and a small graffito on the reverse are noted, this remains a handsome exemplar of Late Roman coinage, struck just prior to Rome's sacking at the hands of the Goths in 410.
