S-1704. Obverse: Christ Pantokrator seated facing on throne; Reverse: Crowned facing busts of Basil, wearing loros, and Constantine, wearing chlamys, holding between them a patriarchal cross. This charming Solidus displays an imposing image of Christ and sharp portraits of both the founder of the Macedonian dynasty and his ill-fated son. A choice example, free from the clipping or graffiti often encountered on the type.
