COSTA RICA. Costa Rica - Bolivia. 2 Reales, 1846. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details; Countermark: VF Details.
KM-54. Issued by decree of 15 October 1846. Countermark: Type V bifacial, Obverse: Sun personification over mountains; Reverse: Ceiba tree flanked by 2R. Applied to a (173)0-P M Bolivia Cob 2 Reales of Philip V (KM-29A). Through the bifacial countermark, the host coin displays two denominations, two assayer's initials, a mintmark, and the somewhat muddled date. The Costa Rican countermark is faint in parts, as is common, but clearly identifiable. With deep mottled gray toning, this is a handsome example of the type.

Estimate: $400 - $600
