GUATEMALA. Guatemala - Bolivia. 8 Reales, ND (1839). PCGS Genuine--Plugged, Fine Details; Countermark: VF Details.
KM-96.2. Type II countermark: radiant sun over mountains. Applied to the reverse of a Bolivian 1685-P VR Cob 8 Reales of Charles II (KM-26). Weight: 24.03 gms. Despite having been countermarked, the host coin offers a bold assayer's monogram, two dates, two mintmarks, and two denominations on its broad planchet. The design of the small counterstamp remains unmistakable. The noted plug can be spotted at 3 o'clock, but it did not affect any of the details as that area was flatly struck. With its soft olive-tinted tone, this stands as a charming example of the type.

Estimate: $300 - $500
