FRANCE. General Lafayette Bronze Medal, 1830. Paris Mint. UNCIRCULATED.
Olivier-51. By François Caunois. 51mm. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Lafayette, right, perimeter legend; Reverse: Seven-line legend within mixed oak and laurel wreath. Cornucopia privy mark. Lafayette, despite being 70 years old, railed against what he viewed as the limits on liberty being imposed by Charles X and joined the Revolution of 1830, being asked to lead the National Guard. Lafayette, though offered a role as leader upon Charles' abdication, suggested Louis-Philippe for the throne instead. A sharp strike with pleasing light bronze surfaces.
