Maier 182. By J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis. 63mm. Obverse: Bust of Marianne, facing right, sprig of laurel about her neck, perimeter legend to left and right; Reverse: Allegory of France, seated on plinth and facing right, embracing Enlightenment at left and crowning Art and Industry at right. View of Paris and the new Eiffel Tower in the background at right, legend on plinth "PARIS 1889", star and rays in exergue below. The exposition celebrated the 100th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille and the overthrow of the monarchy; subsequently, a number of European monarchies officially boycotted the event.
