FRANCE. Agricultural Associations Bronze Award Medal, ND (ca. 1900). Paris Mint. UNCIRCULATED.
By Alphée Dubois. 40mm. Obverse: France, standing at left and facing right, right hand pointing to a book labeled "SCIENCE" atop a plinth, and left hand on the shoulder of Agriculture who is standing and facing left, sower in the lower right background, perimeter legend above; Reverse: Escutcheon on a cartouche, with legend in center, superimposed on grains and flowers above; banderole, grapevines and grape clusters below. Cornucopia privy mark. The Concours Général Agricole was created in 1870 to encourage and promote French agricultural products. Forrer, in 1904, notes that "[Alphée Dubois] stands foremost amongst the brilliant masters of modern medallic art and he is one of those whose names will for ever be linked up with the present Renaissance in the bringing about of which he has so largely contributed."
