Obverse: France, advancing right, with flag and pole in left hand and sword in right, sunrise in lower left background with "1870-71" (marking the beginning of the Third Republic), landscape in lower right background, perimeter legend above; Reverse: Flag inscribed "HONNEUR ET GLOIRE" with blank escutcheon below, superimposed on a variety of arms at right and oak sprig at left.
