FRANCE. Gymnastics Competition in Vienne Bronze Medal, 1912. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
By Felix Rasumny. 45mm. Obverse: Winged Victory above, exhorting military troops forward; Reverse: Rectangular escutcheon with inscription superimposed on laurel branch and small oak sprig. Edge: Square with "AB" jeweler's mark and "BRONZE". Another medallic example linking sport and fitness with military preparedness and training as Europe headed toward an imminent continent-wide war. Slight handling marks noted and thus the assigned grade, nonetheless historic and attractive. To view all items from the PHG Collection click
