FRANCE. Battle of the Marne Memorial Bronze Medal, "1914" (ca. 1918.) CHOICE UNCIRCULATED.
By J. P. Legastelois. 68mm. Obverse: Conjoined, uniformed busts of Generals Joseph Joffre, Michel-Joseph Maunoury, and Joseph Gallieni, all facing right; sprigs of laurel branches at left and right, "SEPTEMBRE/1914" in exergue below; Reverse: Marianne-Victory, soaring above with sword in right hand, exhorts the mass of British and French troops below; anepigraphic. Commemorating a key week-long early battle in the first world war, fought by some two million troops with an estimated half-million casualties, resulting in an Allied victory.
