FRANCE. General Association of Municipal Hygienists and Technicians Bronze Award Medal, 1916. Paris Mint. UNCIRCULATED.
By Léon Lamer. 49mm. Awarded to Villain. Obverse: Hygiene, standing at left, facing right, instructing the municipality, seated at a desk at right, with a planning document in-hand, view of the city through the window above the desk, perimeter legend; Reverse: Scroll showing a city street plan, laurel sprig at left and resting on a plinth with inscription, city view in distant background, legend in upper left field and perimeter legend. Cornucopia privy mark. Issued for the Reconstruction Exposition held in Paris May through July 1916. This event was designed to address destroyed towns and villages, re-planning of municipalities, public edifices, dwellings, rural and farming needs, etc. As one journal put it, "practically everything, except things to eat or wear are desired in this exposition" - a testament to the scale of destruction in a war less than half-way to its conclusion. An interesting and historic piece. To view all items from the PHG Collection click here.
